He took part in an illegal race along Seletar Link and drove faster than 175kmh along the 1.5km stretch of road.
Footage taken from his opponent's in-vehicle camera showed that Malaysian sales account manager Sugath Lum Wai Yuen, 30, was several car lengths ahead.
Court papers did not mention his exact speed.
Lum, a Singapore permanent resident, was jailed for two weeks and fined $1,500 yesterday after pleading guilty to taking part in the race. He had been driving a white Audi S4.
He was also disqualified from driving for a year.
On Oct 11, his opponent, full-time national serviceman Jandej Goh, 20, was placed on a year's probation for taking part in the race and for speeding.
He drove at a speed of about 175kmh, the court heard.
Goh was driving his mother's black Mercedes C200 saloon along the three-lane Seletar Link towards Seletar North Link at around 1.25am on July 26 last year, when some people standing by the road flagged him down.
An unknown passer-by asked him if he wanted to race with Lum's Audi and Goh agreed to take part in the "friendly match". Both men drove their cars to the starting point along Seletar Link.
Lum's car was in the centre lane and Goh's was in the left.
Both cars sped off when Goh sounded his horn three times to signal the start of the race.
They reached a red light further down the road and stopped side by side to speak to each other. While they were there, two Traffic Police officers stopped them.

Detect
The officers had earlier been deployed to detect illegal racing activities along the road.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Selene Yap urged District Judge Kamala Ponnampalam to jail Lum for two weeks and fine him $1,500. She stressed that by racing illegally, he was a potential danger to other road users in the area.
His lawyer, Mr Sunil Sudheesan, asked for his client to be jailed for a day and fined $2,000. He said no accident had occurred and Lum was very sorry for what he had done.
For taking part in the illegal race, he could have been jailed for up to six months and fined between $1,000 and $2,000.
